Small sounds
The ear is a doorway to Awe. The little everyday sounds that we take for granted can, with a slight shift in attention, context, speed, or emphasis, reveal the world’s hidden layers of deep mystery and great beauty.
This blog is a reincarnation of a “Sound of the Week” project that I began in 2006, in which I strove each week to share some newly found audio treasure with others. I posted those sounds both on my website and on a little push-button kiosk outside my studio door, for the amusement of passers-by. Alas, I was never able to maintain the promise of a new sound each week (sometimes a “week” would stretch into months). But the comments I received from listeners were nonetheless encouraging. I thought that a blog would be both a convenient tool for archiving these little sounds (along with some brief reflections/interpretations), as well as a nice way to give fellow sound-lovers an opportunity to respond.
I welcome your thoughtful comments.
