Right here, right now, planet Earth is speaking to us. Have you heard?
The slow crustal movements from tectonic plates, the crash of waves from ocean storms a thousand miles away, the twice-daily pull of Moon and Sun: these ancient natural forces add up to a steady chorus of sound reverberating through the solid Earth. The Earth has many secrets to tell us. But because it speaks in tones far too slow and deep for human ears, the Earth’s true voice has remained unheard for millennia.
Now imagine if the scale of human time were slowed a few hundred- or thousand-fold: if our ears could adjust their pace to the glacial speed at which these vibrations move, we might begin to hear the Earth. Alternatively, if we could accelerate the vibrations, and transpose them up into the range of our ears, perhaps then we might hear.
This is what I do. In recent years I have been exploring ways of bringing the Earth’s slow natural vibrations into the range of human perception. The pages below document some of what I’ve found along the way.
