Night of a Thousand Songs: The Living Sound of the South African Veldt (audio CD)
Night of a Thousand Songs

1 track (total time: 40:52):

  1. Night of a Thousand Songs (40:52) loudspeaker icon

Distilled from several nights and early mornings of field recordings, this CD brings you right to the water's edge of a small waterhole in Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa. In the span of about forty minutes you can experience a representative eight-hour night of sound, from the spectacular late-night chorus of frogs and toads, to the first threads of birdsong from the dawn chorus.

This recording may be enjoyed in many ways: as a calming background soundtrack for relaxation or exercise; as a meditation on the passage of Time; as documentation of a disappearing African wetland habitat; as a tool for the naturalist to hone his or her skills at identifying wildlife by ear; or simply as an experience of pure ambience—the living sound of life on Earth.

Includes an eight-page explanatory booklet.

Right here, right now, the solid Earth is moving under your feet. Earthquakes, storms, and ocean surf on a distant shore: each contributes a note to the restless chorus of vibrations that echoes across the planet's vast interior.

This CD includes three 20-minute recordings of these slow natural vibrations, captured by a global network of digital seismographs and transposed into high-quality stereo.

The CD is accompanied by a 16-page full-color illustrated explanatory booklet (not available separately). An excerpt from this work was featured on National Public Radio's “Sound Clips” series in 2006.

The Emergence of Meaning from Observations of Studio Mass Accumulation (limited edition print)
The Emergence of Meaning from Observations of Studio Mass Accumulation
A portion of Figure 1 from the article.

For five months in 2006 I meticulously recorded the weight of everything that passed into and out of my studio, carefully annotating each measurement: lunch & box of nails IN; full bladder OUT; empty bladder IN; stepladder OUT; etc.

The results of this study were published in the hypothetical Journal of Tangible Intuitions (Volume 8, No. 3, March 2008). This limited-edition 8-page offset reprint includes the complete text of that article, including Figure 1, a 9" × 50" full-color accordion-fold chart that reveals the meaning latent in the raw observations.

God Bless Our Vacuous Slogans (ribbon magnet decal)
God Bless Our Vacuous Slogans

The original "God Bless Our Vacuous Slogans" ribbon magnet decal. It's a message that will never go out of fashion.

These are high-quality vinyl covered magnets, about 3.5" × 8", just like the ones you've seen everywhere — but with a better message. They're very durable: The one on my car lasted through three years of harsh New England summers and winters before it finally began to peel apart and needed to be replaced.

Read more about it and see photos of it in action. If you send me your photo I'll add it to the gallery!
